Contactless Mobile Payment Parking in New Brunswick

Many parking meters have transitioned to contactless ParkMobile. ParkMobile allows visitors and residents to conveniently pay for and extend time at parking spots right from their mobile phones. Residents and visitors can download the ParkMobile app or access it via web browser. ParkMobile accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay.

ParkMobile is available for both iPhone and Android devices, or can also be accessed on a mobile web browser via QR code or text message.

How it Works:

  1. Register at www.parkmobile.com, launch the mobile app on your Android, Windows or iPhone, or call the 1-800-280-4146 number posted on the meter. Registration will require a payment method to be stored such as: PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or ParkMobile Wallet.
  2. Park in any of our marked ParkMobile enabled meters as indicated with green ParkMobile stickers and signs.
  3. Enter the zone number indicated on the meter, and space number, if applicable.
  4. Input your vehicle information and license plate number. If you already added the information, ensure that you have selected the correct vehicle.
  5. Select the amount of time needed and press the "Start Parking" button to begin the session.

*Users can extend the time of the parking session on their mobile device, without having to go back to the meter.

Get a Ticket While Using a Mobile App - ParkMobile, PayByPhone, Passport? Let us Know!

What’s the main goal of payment for parking through a mobile app (ParkMobile, PayByPhone, Passport)?

Simple: Accessibility and convenience.

Aside from being able to make parking payments through your iPhone or Android phone, you can also extend your parking session if your meeting is running longer than expected, or if you plan on grabbing dessert after dinner.

Since the main goal is to help you avoid getting parking tickets, we want you to let us know if you’ve gotten a ticket even though you paid through a mobile app. But before we delve into getting your ticket cancelled, let’s go over the reasons why the ticket may have been issued in the first place.

Incorrect License Plate:

When it comes to tickets being issued despite making payment through a mobile app, the most common reason is an incorrect license plate being entered into your mobile app profile. If your plate number is entered incorrectly into your profile, the vehicle will register as unpaid when our Parking Enforcement Officers (PEOs) check for payment on their handheld devices. So while you’re setting up your profile, double check to make sure your license plate number is entered correctly to avoid a ticket.

Selecting the Wrong Zone Number:

The second most common reason a ticket can be issued is for selecting the incorrect zone number when paying to park. After parking your vehicle, it’s important to take note of the zone number displayed on posted signage.

Note: Each street block along with each street side has its own dedicated zone number that should be referenced when making payment.

Selecting the Wrong Vehicle:

One of the most convenient features of a mobile app is being able to have multiple vehicles on your profile. Here’s the thing though: After parking, make sure you’re selecting the correct vehicle in your mobile app profile. If you have the wrong vehicle selected, no payment will be shown for the vehicle you actually parked.

Questions about a ticket?

Good news: The NBPA may provide a one-time courtesy for inadvertent user error when making mobile parking payments. If you received a ticket due to one of the scenarios listed above, your case may be reviewed provided you had an active parking session at the time the ticket was issued. All reviews are handled on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the NBPA.

Here’s what to do:

Step 1: Take note of your parking ticket number.

Step 2: Provide a copy of your mobile parking receipt by:

Opening the mobile app and tap “Activity.”

Tap “History” to find the parking session when you were issued the ticket.

After finding the applicable parking session, take a screenshot.

Note: Please make sure your receipt includes the following:

Mobile Parking Zone Number
Date & Time of Transaction
Start & End Time of Transaction
License Plate Number

Step 3: Send the information to:

  • To us on at www.njnbpa.org "contact us"
  • Our call 732-545-3118

After sending us the information, our team will look into the ticket and they’ll be in touch.

Public Service Announcements - Saving Parking Spots

A Friendly Reminder…

While we understand everyone would like to park in front of their residence, saving unoccupied parking spots is not allowed and illegal. The City of New Brunswick wants to remind residents to be good neighbors and respect the parking rules and regulations.

The use of cones or other objects to save a parking space along a residential street is prohibited. If this practice is observed by officers of the New Brunswick Police Department or the New Brunswick Parking Authority, the cones will be removed, and a summons will be issued when applicable. Please be courteous to your neighbors and obey the rules.
